Criticising the government for its various misdeeds including corruption in different sectors, BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Monday said the ruling Awami League (AL) did not achieve any success over the last four years, reports UNB.
"The government has presented the nation only corruption, disappearance, killing and persecution over the last four years. It has no success and won't be able to achieve it in the remaining one year," he said while addressing a discussion organised by Sangbidhanik Odhiker Forum at the National Press Club in the capital.
Member secretary of Dhaka City unit BNP Abdus Salam, general secretary of Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal Shirin Sultana, among others, addressed the discussion.
Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain accused the government of killing opposition leader Rafiqul Islam using its secret killing force.
"There are rumours that the government has formed Gestapo force (killer force) which is assigned to abduct and kill the opposition leaders who will play role in different movements. Thus, we have lost BNP leader Ilias Ali, president of ward-56 BNP Chowdhury Alam and general secretary of the same ward Rafiqul Islam.
Mentioning AL's rule during its 1972-75 tenure, he said the party has broken all its previous records of misdeeds this time.
Claiming that the restoration of the CG system has become a public demand, he said over 65 per cent people now want the non-party caretaker government to oversee the next poll.
"So, our movement demanding reinstatement of the system has got momentum because of the public support," he added.
Meanwhile, at a rally in front of the National Press Club, BNP standing committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan termed the killing of his party's Dhaka City unit leader Rafiqul Islam as a 'barbarous act'.
He slammed the government for what he said turning the country into a jail and said the ruling party has filed false cases against 25000 opposition leaders and activists.
