Gazi spins South Zone to victory

Sohag Gazi's 11th 5-wicket haul in the 23rd first class match led Prime Bank South Zone to an astounding 37-run victory over Islami Bank East Zone on the 4th and last day of the 2nd round match of the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city Saturday, reports UNB.

In another match at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra, BCB North Zone batsman Nasir Hossain's 131 off 112 balls featuring nine fours and four sixes led the match to a draw as expected.

PRIME Bank South Zone Vs Islami Bank East Zone

Requiring 127 runs to win with 8 wickets in hand, East Zone could make only 89 runs on the last day with overnight batsmen Rajin Saleh (38), Mominul Haque (14) and Alok Kapali (0) going back home within the first nine overs into the start of the day. And eventually, they were dismissed for 227.

Number seven Dhiman Ghosh (28) only found some runs in the show stolen away by South Zone spinners Sohag Gazi and veteran Abdur Razzak.

Gazi with the spell of 28-8-73-5 in the 2nd innings and match figures of 48.3-12-139-11 became the player of the match while Razzak took two wickets for 42 runs. Besides, pacer Robiul Islam claimed two for 69 runs.

Earlier, on the 3rd day, settling for a target of 265 with the help of Nabil Samad's six-wicket haul, East Zone scored 138 for 2 in 42 overs at stumps.

Except, opener Nafees Iqbal, who scored 63 runs off 124 balls with 11 fours, there was nobody to steer the chase.

BCB North Zone Vs Walton Central Zone

After Central Zone declared their 1st innings at 436 for 9 playing only seven deliveries on the 4th day, North Zone batted out the day to score 397 for 6 in 84 overs in their 2nd innings.

Opener Myshukur Rahman scored 73 runs off 123 balls with seven fours and two sixes while number five Nasir Hossain hit his fourth hundred in the 35-match first class career. Besides, number seven Farhad Reza remained not out on 77 off 84 balls with 11 fours.

Mohammad Ashraful took three wickets for 65 runs to add to the feat of a long awaited century (133) in the Central Zone 1st innings. Ashraful was named player of the match.

Islami Bank East Zone - 1st inns 232 for all in 65.3 overs (Nafees Iqbal 83, Mominul Haque 78, Extras 22; Sohag Gazi 6-66, Abdur Razzak 4-63) & 2nd inns 227 all out in 72.1 overs (Nafees Iqbal 63, Rajin Saleh 38, Extras 36; Sohag Gazi 5-73, Abdur Razzak 2-42, Robiul Islam 2-69).

BCB North Zone - 1st inns 361 for all in 111.5 overs (Mushfiqur Rahim 76* Zunaid 78, Farhad 72, Myshukur 49, Extras 9; Elias Sunny 3-80, Shahadat Hossain 2-43, Mosharraf Hossain 2-122) & 2nd inns 397 for 6 in 84 overs (Myshukur 73, Nasir Hossain 131, Extras 11; Ashraful 3-65).

Walton Central Zone - 1st inns 436 for 9 in 157.1 overs (Mohammad Ashraful 133, Mehrab Hossain Jr 131, Extras 8; Sajidul Islam 3-103, Saqlain Sajib 3-98).
