Bangladesh is keen to sign free trade agreement (FTA) with Turkey to boost bilateral trade, says Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed.

"The first round of discussion for the FTA has been completed while the second round will be held soon," the minister said while addressing a meeting in Dhaka on Wednesday.

Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM) and FBCCI jointly organised the "Turkey-Bangladesh Business Forum and B2B Meeting" in a city hotel.

Bangladesh doesn’t get duty and quota free access to Turkish market as the country is not in European Union.

"Bangladesh is not making the desired export to Turkey for high duty," said the commerce minister, adding, "But the export will be boosted if the FTA is signed."

In the last fiscal year, Bangladesh exported US $ 631 million products against the import of US $ 212.30 million.

Referring to the traditional cultural and trade relations between Bangladesh and Turkey, the commerce minister laid emphasis on increasing communication between the businessmen of the two countries, according to BSS.
