Narayanganj 7-murder: HC upholds death for 15

The High Court has upheld death sentences for 15 convicts in the Narayanganj seven murders.

Death penalties awarded by the trial court to 11 other convicts were commuted to life in prison, reports

The abduction and gruesome killing of seven people, including councillor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar from Narayanganj three years ago shocked the nation.

A Narayanganj court gave the death sentence to 26 and various prison terms to nine others in the case.

The news later made international headlines when it emerged that members of the elite police unit the Rapid Action Battalion or RAB, were involved in the killings.

Former Narayanganj City Corporation councillor Nur Hossain and three former senior officers of the local RAB unit, including its then chief, former army lieutenant colonel Tarek Sayeed Mohammad, were among the those awarded the death penalty for the 2014 sensational seven-murder.

The High Court verdict on Tuesday upheld the sentences of Hossain and former senior RAB officers.
