BOGRA, Aug 15: Most of the farm owners of the district have been following natural cattle fattening methods ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

The livestock department said livestock sector has playing an important role to keep the economy stable in all the 12 upazilas of the district over the past few years.

Abul Kashem, district animal production officer, said, "A good number of rearers of the area have attained financial solvency by selling their fattened cattle in Eid-ul-Azha markets. Numbers of young educated unemployed youth have already taken cattle fattening as a profession."

 "We are trying our level best to help the marginal farmers bring solvency by fattening their cattle in natural and safe way", he added.

Farm owner Siddiq Hossain of Dupchanchia upazila said feeds grass, bhushi, boiled khud and oilcake to make cattlehead healthy.

 "Setting up a farm remaining five oxen spending Tk 0.3 million, I am expecting Tk 0.2 million will be profit," said Tozzamamel Hossain under Kahaloo upazila.

Shahiduzzaman, district livestock officer, said the northwestern region has an enormous prospect of expanding the livestock sector through best uses of the existing natural resources. Production of healthy cattle from existing indigenous stock by applying natural technology is keeping vital role to alleviate poverty, he added.
