Introducing city train service

DAY by day, the city dwellers find it increasingly difficult and arduous to move from one part of Dhaka to another. The condition of roads in Dhaka is too well known to elaborate and the common people always have a sense of fear when they come out of the house. I often take the train from Kamlapur so that I can reach Uttara or Gazipur area without facing traffic jam. I know quite a few people who regularly travel by train from Kamlapur to Uttara and they find it quite comfortable as they do not have to face traffic jam. I would request the railway authorities to increase the number of inter-city trains to take some pressure off from road transport. The train is and always has been a relatively safe mode of transport and given the opportunity it will attract passengers in increasing number. I think a little bit of planning in this regard can provide the much-needed respite for Dhaka city commuters. It is high time we think about it as it merits serious consideration.
