One admission test for all public universities

STUDENTS are looked upon as the future of a nation. But the students of our country have to suffer a lot during university admission tests every year. The number of public universities is limited compared to the number of students. More than two hundred thousand students take part in admission tests for public universities and only a small percentage of them can come out successful. On the other hand, students from all over the country appear at admission test for medical colleges and thereafter, according to the merit list, they are selected for various government medical colleges.

The matter is very simple. Evaluation of students in medical colleges is done in the same manner and no objection is raised from any quarter. But for admission to public universities, a student has to buy admission forms of various universities that need extra money and providing extra money is difficult for most of the students especially for those who are not well off. Another problem that arises is the travelling and expenses involved. It is extremely difficult for a student who is taking part in (say) Dhaka University admission test on a day to attend admission test for another public university the following day. The sufferings of the students can better be imagined than described. A student cannot do well in the admission test although he or she was supposed to secure good marks according to his/her merit. We are familiar with hypoglycemia. When maximum level of glucose does not remain in blood, hypoglycemia occurs. Pressure of extra journey may cause hypoglycemia in a student. To remove these problems, our government should arrange a single admission test for all public universities to be held in every university at the same time. Students will be allotted to different universities according to the merit list of the admission test. I would request the government to start this system as soon as possible to reduce the sufferings of students.
