Green chilli cultivation expands in Raninagar UZ

Farmers in Raninagar Upazila of the district are cultivating green chilli in extended areas of land finding it to be a profitable venture.

Sources at the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said this year about 30 hectares of land have been brought under green chilli cultivation in the upazila.

Farmers of the upazila have cultivated different high yielding variety of chilli in their lands. The produce is being sold at Tk 2,500 to 2,800 per maund as per the quality, the sources added.

One Rakib Uddin of village Kujail under the district informed he cultivated green chilli on two hectares of land spending around Tk 25,000.

"I have already earned Tk 90,000 from the cultivation and expect more 60,000 from rest of the produce", he added.

Upazila agriculture officer SM Golam Sarwar said farmers of the upazila are showing interest to grow green chilli for its high demand throughout the year.

The field-level DAE officials are giving necessary instructions to the farmers to make this year's chilli cultivation a grand success, Mr. Sarwar added.
