BASIS, MCCI suggest e-payment, logistic framework to unlock e-commerce potentials

Speakers at a seminar said Saturday e-commerce market in Bangladesh was expected to get a big boost, but growth of the nascent sector is adversely affected due to the lack of appropriate e-payment and logistics framework in the country.

In Bangladesh, 22 per cent of 66 million internet users are engaged in online shopping, they said, suggesting the development of an appropriate e-payment and logistics framework to facilitate the e-commerce market, reports BSS.

Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) and Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), Dhaka, jointly organised a seminar on e-Commerce Payments and Logistics at Lakeshore Hotel in the city. Mastercard, SSL Wireless and Technohaven sponsored the event.

The seminar mainly highlighted the most common hindrances that stand in the way of e-Commerce growth, investment opportunities in e-commerce ecosystem and recommendations for relevant policy makers.

State minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak attended it as the special guest while Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank SM Moniruzzaman was present as the guest of honour.

President of BASIS Mustafa Jabbar, Vice-President of MCCI Golam Mainuddin, former President of BASIS Habibullah N Karim, Director of BASIS Mostafizur Rahman Sohel, Rubaiyat Jami, Abul Kashem Md. Shirin and Fahim Mashroor attended the seminar..
