Govt to improve regional highways in Sylhet zone

SYLHET, July 15: The Roads & Highways (R&H) department has taken up a major development project for the improvement of 4 regional highways in greater Sylhet region, an official informed Tuesday.

Talking to this correspondent Additional Chief Engineer, Sylhet zone Md. Shah Nawaj said the Tk 5.33 billion project would help major improvement of of the different damaged parts of the 6 regional highways of Sylhet division. Tenders would be floated this month, as the 3-year project is set to start from the current fiscal 2017-2018, the official added.

Among those, 22 km on the 46 km long Pagla-Jogonnathpur-Raniganj-Aushkandi road in the districts of Sunamganj and Habiganj would be upgraded.

Six km damaged portion of the 14-km Golapganj-Dhakadakshin-Bhadeswar road in Sylhet district would be upgraded through rigid pavement.

Meanwhile, 3.6 km would be upgraded and 700 metre would be made rigid pavement on the 42 km long Rajnagar-Kulaura-Juri-Barlekha-Beanibazar-Sheola-Charkhai road spreading in Sylhet and Moulvibazar districts.

Besides, 60 km on the 90 km long Sylhet-Golapganj-Charkhai-Zakiganj road of Sylhet district would be developed through major reconstruction works.

Same way, 12 km on the 18 km long Juri-Lathitila road of Moulvibazar district would be upgraded and 2 culverts would be constructed there.

Moreover, 28 Km on the 52 km long Sarail-Nasirnagar-Lakhai-Habiganj road in the districts of Habiganj and neighbouring Brahmanbaria would be improved while 4 bridges would be constructed and damaged parts of the road would be strengthened through rigid pavement.
