Stocks mostly lower in early trading

The prices of most of the shares on both bourses witnessed downward trend in early hour of trading Wednesday as risk-averse investors are booking profit on quick-gaining stocks.

After hitting all-time of the premier bourse’s key index in the previous day, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened with a mixed trend.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse fell 5.22 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse advanced 4.06 points at 10:45am.

After 30 minutes of trading, DSEX fell 12 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse plunged 50 points at 11:00am when the report was filed.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went down by 12 points or 0.20 per cent to come down at 5,819 points, when the report was filed at 11:00am.

The two other indices also saw downward trend till then. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips fell 2.83 points or 0.13 per cent to 2,124 points. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 1.52 points or 0.12 per cent to stand at 1,320 points.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 1.22 billion during the filing of the report.

Of the issues traded till then, 87 advanced, 128 declined and 48 remained unchanged.

IFAD Autos led the transaction chart of the DSE till then with shares worth Tk 170 million changing hands, closely followed by Keya Cosmetics Tk 105 million, Tung Hai Knitting Tk 59 million, Fu-Wang Food Tk 45 million and Beximco Tk 44 million.

The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also saw downward trend till then with its Selective Category Index – CSCX – losing 50 points to stand at 10,902 points, also at 11:00am.

Of the issues traded till then, 32 gained, 71 declined and 14 issues remained unchanged with BDT 90 million in turnover.
