Export to Canada drops slightly

The country’s merchandise export to Canada dropped slightly in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year (FY17).

The latest statistics of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) showed that export to Canada stood at $960.19 million in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year.

The amount was $979.46 million in the same period of the past fiscal year.

Thus export to Canada dropped by around 2 per cent during the period under review.

The EPB statistics also showed that annual export to Canada stood at $1112.88 million in FY16.

Canada provides tariff-free market access to Bangladesh with very flexible criteria of rules of origin. By complying with only 25 per cent local value addition, Bangladeshi producers can get the tariff-free access.
