Sales of footwears including shoes have gained momentum in different city markets and shopping centres ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, market insiders have said.

According to traders and outlet managers, sales of different kinds of footwears have increased three to four times than those of normal days.

The sales are also increasing significantly day by day as Eid nears.

During a visit to some of major markets and shopping centres in the city, a large number of customers were found to be crowding different outlets, especially at shops of different prominent brands.

However, some customers also expressed their dissatisfaction over higher prices this year although comparatively there are varied collections now.

Md Kamruzzaman, outlet manager of Apex in Bashundara City told the FE that their sales have increased more than three times than those of normal days ahead of the holy Eid.

"Hopefully, sales will also be rising significantly in the coming days as our daily sales are  continuously increasing," he said.

He said they introduced around 500 types of new products this year to meet varied demands of their customers.

Mr Kamruzzaman also said prices of gents' items range between Tk 790 and Tk 15,000 while those of ladies' items between Tk 690 and Tk 5,190.

Iqbal Hossain, an outlet manager of the BATA said their sales have also risen nearly three times than those of normal days.

"On the occasion of Eid, BATA also has introduced new products," he said

Traders of some of non-brand outlets of the city's Elephant Road area told the FE that their sales have also soared.

They said people of middle class, lower middle class and poor segment are their main customers. Prices too have been fixed considering their capacity.

"Most of our products are priced between Tk 700 and Tk 2,000," said Aminur Rahman, an owner of such an outlet at Elephant Road.

He said they are comparatively getting good response this year than that of the last year.

However, there is thin presence of buyers in shops of imported footwears.

A salesman of Lotus Bazar, an outlet of imported footwears at Elephant Road, told the FE that most of their products are from Thailand prices of which are slightly higher than those of local brands.

Rashed Ul Amin, a student, was buying footwear along with his sister from an outlet of Elephant Road and said he just bought three pairs of footwear and will buy two more pairs also.

"I noticed prices are comparatively higher this year than last year," he said.

He, however, said there are varied collections of footwears this year being offered by the companies.

"We just went to some outlets and bought our products according to our choices," he added

Sabiha Islam Mira, a housewife, said after buying dresses and other items, she has just come to buy footwears for her and her family members.
