President expresses shock at deaths in landslides

President Abdul Hamid on Tuesday expressed deep shock at the loss of lives caused by rain-induced landslides in Bandarban, Chittagong and Rangamati districts early Tuesday.

In a condolence message, Abdul Hamid prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved families, reports UNB.

He also conveyed deep sympathy to the families of the army personnel killed in landslides while carrying out rescue operations amid adverse weather.

The President asked the authorities concerned to complete the rescue operations promptly in the areas where hillslides took place and ensure treatment of those injured in landslides.

At least 51 people, including six army personnel and children, were killed and 10 went missing in separate incidents of hillslides triggered by heavy rains in Bandarban, Chittagong and Rangamati districts early Tuesday.
