Lighter vessels sink off Ctg Port

Two vessels sank in the Bay of Bengal off Chittagong Port in inclement weather on Monday.

The two lighter vessels (also locally called lighterage), used mainly to transport goods from large ships, went down in seawater at the port's outer anchorage during rains and gusty wind.

Hazi Kayes sank in the deep sea near Jaliapara around 11am Monday. At 12:30pm, Olympic-2 sank rough sea near Bhatiari coast, according to port authorities.

All 28 sailors aboard the vessels have been rescued.

However, the sinking of the two vessels did not hamper port activity. - agencies
