Two giraffes die at Bangabandhu Safari Park
Two giraffes died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Gazipur on Wednesday.

Shahab Uddin, in-charge of Bangabandhu Safari Park, said two giraffes aged about 5/6 years suddenly fell sick on Tuesday night.

On information, Shamsul Alam, project director of the park and a medical team led by Prof Dr Abdur Rahman of veterinary medicine department at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) went to the spot to check out the condition of the two giraffes.

However, the giraffes died while undergoing treatment in the morning. The reason behind their death could not be ascertained yet.

Later, the giraffes were buried after conducting an autopsy.

A total of ten giraffes including the dead ones have been brought from Africa there in the park in 2013, said Shahab Uddin.

The authorities concerned of the park have closed it to visitors for an indefinite period following the deaths of the giraffes, reports UNB.
