NAOGAON, May 15: Groundnut cultivation is gaining popularity in Raninagar upazila of the district as it has been proved more profitable than other crops.

DAE sources said a total of 50 hectares of land have been brought under the farming of the crop in eight unions of the upazila this year.

Farmers of the district have cultivated high yielding variety of groundnut in their lands. After harvesting, the produce would be sold at Tk 2,200 to Tk 2,800 per maund as per the quality, the sources added.

One Mobarak Ali of village Durgapur under the Upazila said this season he cultivated groundnut on 48 decimals of land.

"The plants have grown well and I am expecting a good price from the cultivation," he added.

Upazila agriculture officer Sabuj Kumar Saha said farmers of the district are showing interest in growing groundnut for its high demand.

The field-level DAE officials are assisting the growers to get best output from this year's cultivation, Mr Saha added.
