Jewellers demand opening of Apan outlets

FE Report

Bangladesh Jewellers' Samity (BJS) demanded of the authorities concerned Monday to immediately open the showrooms of Apan Jewelers, which were sealed off by the Customs Sunday.

The association termed it just 'harassment' and said Apan Jewelers was running its business as per the government's rules and regulations, said a press release.

It said the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Division (CIID) sealed off five outlets of the jewellers in the city.

Reportedly, they seized 286 kilograms of gold and ready ornaments, and 61 grams of diamonds.

CIID conducted a raid on the outlets following a much-talked-about rape case, in which Safat Ahmed, son of the owner of Apan Jewelers Dildar Ahmed, is allegedly involved. Police was investigating into the incident.
