DU student drowns in Zahurul Haq Hall pond

A Dhaka University student died after drowning in the Shahid Sergeant Zahurul Haq Hall pond on Monday.

The student was identified as Nuruddin Jony, a first-year student of the Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, who hails from Noakhali.

Jony drowned around 10:30am on Monday, said Dhaka University Acting Proctor Prof Amjad Ali.

He had gone swimming in the pond with his friend Mashiur Rahman when he suddenly went underwater, the university official said. Hearing Rahman’s cries, others from the Hall rushed to the pond. Jony, however, could not be found.

The body was recovered later on by a fire service diving squad, according to bdnews24.com.
