Power disruption halts industrial activity in Kazla

Operations of a number of industries including steel and steel re-rolling mills in Dhaka’s Kazla industrial belt remained suspended for lack of electricity supply over the last few days.

Industry owners in the area said electricity supply went off on Thursday following a technical fault in the Kazla substation.

They said a fire incident took place in the substation that led to a power cut for all the industries and residential consumers there.

“Already four days have gone, but the situation has not improved as the DPDC, the power supply entity, failed to repair the fault as yet,” said owner of a steel mill situated in the area.

Owner of Shahrier Steel and Re-rolling Mills said the industries in the area have been incurring huge losses due to the disaster in power supply.

Contacted earlier in the evening, director (operation) of DPDC Harun-or-Rashid, while admitting the power disruption, claimed to have already repaired the fault at the sub-station and restored electricity supply to industries.

But till filing the report at 8:30pm, owner of Shahrier Steel Mills said they are still not getting the electricity supply to the mills in the area. source – UNB
