Raiders cheerleaders win $1.25m in lawsuit
The Oakland Raiders have been featured in the news quite heavily in the past several weeks. Most recently is a report on lawsuit settlement that will award a total of $1.25 million to nearly 100 Raiderette cheerleaders, according to the site sportsnaut.

The lawsuit claimed that the Raiders failed to pay minimum wage as well as overtime to their cheerleaders. In addition to this, they allegedly did not reimburse the cheerleaders for expenses from 2010-14.

The attorneys for the Raiderettes issued this statement regarding the winning settlement.

“Our clients have now been paid the equivalent of minimum wage for all of the hours they worked and have been reimbursed for their out-of-pocket expenses,” attorney Sharon Vinick said in a statement from Levy Vinick Burrell Hyams LLP, the attorneys for the class members, per Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle. “It is important to note that paying these women minimum wage doesn’t represent the value that these hard-working women bring to the Game Day Experience.”

Each of the women in the class action lawsuit will reportedly receive over $20,000. The suit was initiated by Lacy T. and Sarah G., Raiderettes whose identities are being protected.

Lacy T. shared this after the winning the suit.

“I never dreamed that my decision to find a lawyer and file a lawsuit would lead to the kind of sweeping changes we have seen for the women of the NFL. It’s pretty breathtaking. But as a mom, it makes me proud to know I’ve stood up for myself, other women, and my daughters.”
