DAE takes extensive plan to cultivate Boro in Bogra
BOGRA, Mar 19: The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Bogra, has taken an extensive plan to cultivate Boro paddy on 1, 96,857 hectares of land with the production target of 8,07,146 tonnes.
Of the total, some 1,30,000 hectares of land have been cultivated HYV (high yield variety) with an output target of 7,04,161 tonnes of rice. Hybrid rice is being cultivated in 82,990 hectares with the target to produce 60,180 tonnes and 33,867 hectares of land have been brought under the farming of local variety with the production target of 42,805 tonnes.
Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation and its approved dealers distributed high quality Boro seed to the farmers at a reasonable price. Besides, different state-run commercial banks including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank have taken initiatives to disburse agri loans on easy terms to the poor and marginal farmers to help them cultivate the paddy.
DAE has been conducting training for the farmers for adopting modern technologies in paddy farming, crop management, judicious use of fertiliser and preservation of quality seed, said Shah Alam, assistant agriculture officer of DAE. A total of 239 deep tubewells is supplying irrigation water to the paddy fields, the official added.
Deputy director of DAE Protul Kumar Chandra said all necessary measures have been taken to make Boro cultivation programme successful.
