Traffic jam: Woes of commuters

DHAKA is a large metropolitan city, but we do not see its public transport system being developed according to it size and population. The current situation demands that more public buses should be introduced and the number of private cars be restricted which is a major cause for the never-ending traffic jam in our city. Every day hundreds of working hours are lost because of severe traffic gridlock. If we can have a systematic transport sector, the wheels of the economy will get much needed speed and alacrity. Every day I spend three to four hours in traffic jam and it is very frustrating to see private cars occupying 70 per cent of the road and carrying only 10 per cent of the total commuters!

If the public transport system is improved it will discourage people to come out with their own vehicles during peak hours as it is done in developed societies.
