Democracy, political stability essential for development: President
For a developed country a flourishing democracy and political stability are absolutely essential, said President Abdul Hamid on Tuesday.

"Bangladesh is a role model globally due to its socioeconomic development. But we will have to remember that outgrowth of democracy and political stability is urgent for development," he said.

The president said it while addressing a rally arranged on the premise of Rotary Degree College at Astagram Upazila in Kishoreganj, marking its silver jubilee, reports UNB. 

The President said democracy flourishes in a country through tolerance, mutual respect and strengthening of its democratic institutions.

Difference of opinion among political parties is common in democratic system, he said adding, "But, it is our duty to accelerate democratic advancement and to make it meaningful through practicing democratic norms and rules. We will have to work together for the greater welfare of the nation and country as well."
