Sudden rainfall saves Boro crop from drought-like effect in Magura
MAGURA, Mar 12: Sudden rainfall has come as a boon for Magura Boro growers.
Boro farmers sources informed, drought like situation was prevailing in the district for last 2 weeks. In that situation Boro seedlings were getting discoloured and they were apprehending massive damage of their Boro paddy. But heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday has brought smile on their faces. Now they are expecting a bumper production.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Magura sources informed about 25590 hectares of land have been brought under Boro cultivation in the district this season. On Friday and Saturday this district faced rainfall of 55 mm.
Hashmat Ali a Boro grower of village Kullia under Magura sadar upazilla told , as drought like situation was prevailing in the district for last 2 weeks, I was thinking to irrigate my land . But rainfall on Friday and Saturday has relieved me from the pressure of irrigation cost.
Moinul Hossen a Boro grower in village Chandpur under Magura sadar upazila said, "Due to extreme drought my Boro seedlings were losing colour. Moreover my seedlings were facing insect attack. But due to rainfall on Friday and Saturday my seedlings have taken a fresh look and also now free from insect attack. Now I am expecting a bumper production."
DAE official Badrul Hasan told, rain for two days has brought smile on the faces of Boro farmers. Now we are expecting a bumper production.
