BOGRA, Nov 30:  At least fourteen years of the construction, a bridge over Shashirkhari canal in Talora municipality area under Dupchanchia Upazila of the district has yet to become usable due to lack of connecting roads.

Source said Disaster Management and Relief Ministry allocated around Tk 0.4 million for the 25-feet bridge for better communication of the people of seven villages. The construction work was completed in April, 2002. But no connecting road was constructed due to fund constraint.

"We do not know when the road will be constructed to make the bridge usable," said Akram Hossain, a teacher of Saranjabari village of the upazila. He said if the authority concerned would take proper initiative to construct the connecting roads, people of Talora, Saranjabari, Altafnagar, Talla, Goyabangha, Pallapara and Kundagram villages would be benefited.

"No allocation has been made for the construction of connecting road. We have already informed the higher authorities of the matter and work will be started if the fund is available," said Nur Alam Siddique, upazila engineer.

Talora municipality mayor Abdul Jalil Khondaker said, "We have taken measures several times to construct the connected road but could not succeed due to fund shortage."

Besides, the owners of the lands are not agreed to give up their crop lands for road construction at any cost, he added.
