Tax offices face rush of taxpayers
With the filing of tax return closing on Wednesday (November 30), tax offices witnessed a rush of taxpayers who gathered at their respective field level circle offices under 31 tax zones to submit income tax return.
As the government will not extend the deadline for submission of tax return this year, the taxpayers were found waiting in different zonal offices to file their tax return.
November 30 is also the Income Tax Day.
When contacted on Tuesday afternoon, tax commissioner of Tax Zone-2 Kanan Kumar Roy said they were facing a huge rush of taxpayers. He said the tax payers are being given necessary support and cooperating in filing tax return.
Several booths have been set up in zonal offices to provide such services, he said, adding “The taxpayers who could not come to tax fair are now coming to tax offices for submission of tax return.”
NBR chairman Md Nojibur Rahman said the tax fair and tax week have helped remove fear among the people about tax. "We expect that the number of tax return will go up this year," he said.
He said public servants who draw monthly basic Tk 16,000 salary and more must submit tax return. The officers concerned will start verifying it in December and inform the NBR, he said, adding that then the NBR will take steps as per the law, according to a news agency. – bz
