Child labour must be eradicated
CHILD labor is an issue that the government is trying hard to eradicate. According to statistics, around 10 per cent of our children aged between five and 14 years work as child labour. Ninety per cent of these children are working in the informal sector. Although our GDP is increasing, child labour is far from being eradicated.
When I go to office every day I often find a number of children working at a motor garage and workshop nearby. The small children there are toiling hard till midnight. It is a story of sweat and blood. Unless we are able to reduce extreme poverty, the situation will be the same. Child labour still prevails in the poor and underdeveloped countries and the United Nations is working on it. I believe if everyone joins hands with one another, we can make our world free of child labour where children will not be forced to work instead of going to school and building their future and the future of the globe. We cannot claim to be civilised unless we ensure food, shelter and education for every child of this world.
