New voters ineligible for dist council polls
Prospective voters, who are going to register their names as new voters after November 20, will not be eligible for either vying in the coming district council election or casting ballot in the polls.
The district council polls will be held on December 28 this year.
A reliable source at the Election Commission (EC) has said that the EC has already sent directives in this regard to the returning officers. The letter was undersigned by assistant secretary Rawshan Ara.
Copies of the letter have also been sent to the cabinet division, senior secretaries and secretaries of all the ministries, PMO, police headquarters, and other offices and department concerned.
As per district council act, all the elected people’s representatives of a given district are the voters of the council. They will cast votes to elect district council chairman, 15 members and five reserve seat members.
The candidate cannot cast vote in the district council polls, says the act.
The EC announced the schedule of the district council elections on November 20.
December 1 is the last date to submit nomination papers, vetting on December 3-4, filing appeal against the decision of returning officer on December 5-6.
December 11 is the date of withdrawal of candidature. Symbols will be distributed on December 12, according to a news agency. – bz
