Iran train collision: Death toll rises to 45
Death toll has risen to 45 in the train accident in northern Iran on Friday, Iran's Red Crescent Society announced on Saturday.
Ali Yahyaei, deputy of relief and rescue organisation of Semnan province Red Crescent Society, said that another 103 people were injured.
Most of the injured people have been discharged from the medical centres after receiving the basic treatments, Yahyaei said.
He said that two trains collided in Haft-Khan train station located between Semnan and Damghan cities in Iran's Semnan province at 7:45 am local time (0415 GMT) on Friday.
Wagons were set in fire as the trains collided and the deaths and most of the injuries were due to the burning.
Three railway staffs have been detained over the incident, the prosecutor of Semnan province, Heidar Asiaei said.
Iranian officials said on Friday that human failure in observing the duties was the cause of the incident.
Asiaei added that the results of investigations and interrogations will be announced later, according to a news agency report.
