GOPALGANJ, Nov 24: The farmers of the district are now busy preparing Boro seedbeds to start cultivation of the paddy from mid- December.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Gopalganj, about 2,515 tonnes of seeds of local, Upashi and hybrid varieties will be grown 0n 4,100 hectares of land this season.
DAE sources said about 40 per cent of seedbeds have already been prepared and the rest would be completed by the first week of December.
Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) and local seed traders have already distributed quality seeds of the paddy like BIRI dhan 28, 29, 50, 55, 64, Bina 8, BR 16, BR 26, Hybrid SL8H, Hira, Sathi, Taj, ACI, Sampad, Aloron, Jagoron, Aftab, Rajkumar, Mayna, Gold and Nafco 108 among the farmers of the area at reasonable prices.
The DAE expects to bring 77,896 hectares of land under the cultivation of the paddy variety in the district with a production target of 0.34 million tonnes.
