Viqarunnisa students receive mental health awareness, services
The students of the Viqarunnisa Noon School and College in Dhaka have received mental health awareness as well as services at a programme marking the World Mental Health Day.
‘Psychological first aid’ which was the theme of this year’s mental health day, personality test or ego- gram, non-violent communication, anger management, depression, stress management, exam phobia, time management, anxiety and hopelessness were some of the issues discussed at the daylong event.
Focussing on the Day, the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology (DECP) of the Dhaka University is carrying out month-long programme raising awareness on mental health issues, which are generally neglected in the country.
Tuesday’s event, the DECP said, at Bangladesh’s one of the top girls school was jointly orgnaised with Bangladesh Educational and Counseling Psychology Society.
Principal Sufia Khatun opened the programme while DECP Lecturer Umme Kawser was the coordinator.
Meanwhile, Prof Mehtab Khanam will give ‘couple therapy’ to those who are in a ‘committed relationship’ while Mahjabeen Haque, an associate professor of the department, will give parents training on how to ‘discipline’ children on Wednesday at the University campus, according to a news agency. – bz
