DAE holds field day on lentil farming in Naogaon
NAOGAON, Sept 22: A farmers' field day on cultivation of lentil held at Rasulpur village under Badalgachi Upazila of the district today.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Badalgachi, arranged the programme aimed at making the lentil cultivation popular among the farmers in the area.
Upazila agriculture officers Rahela Parveen, Amzad Hossain and Abdul Mannan addressed the occasion. Around 150 farmers from five villages of the upazila took part in the programme.
Speakers said lentil is a rich source of protein and can be easily grown under rice fallow conditions. The plants improve soil fertility by fixing atmospheric nitrogen and hence the farmers need to adopt the technology in the area.
Besides, lentil cultivation requires less maintenance cost than the other crops. Lentil plants are not prone to diseases and a little pesticide is required. Growers can harvest right to nine maunds of lentil from each bigha of land.
Farmers of the area can easily make a handsome profit through lentil farming every year, speakers added.
