Merchant banks seek Tk 60b fund to overcome loan deficit
Bangladesh Merchant Bankers Association (BMBA) sought around Tk 60 billion special funds to overcome the margin loan deficit.
"We proposed the finance minister for about Tk 60 billion funds. The fund will increase the liquidity flow of the stock market," said BMBA President M Sayadur Rahman.
Sayadur said this to reporters on Tuesday after a meeting with Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith at his secretariat office, reports BSS.
He hoped that the fund will help solving merchant banks’ negative equity problems and accelerate the county's stock markets.
During the meeting, the finance minister took the proposal positively and assured that he will discuss with authorities concerned to form the fund.
Responding to a question, Sayadur Rahman said the fund can be formed through local and foreign finance or bond. - IH
