Cases are going to be filed against immediate-past Chief of Army Staff Gen (retd) Moeen U Ahmed, who is branded by many as the key player behind the 1/11 changeover, as litigants have already approached Barrister Moudud Ahmed for processing the charges, reports UNB.

The top BNP leader, Barrister Moudud, in reply to questions from the journalists at his Motijheel chamber Wednesday, said cases would be lodged against the ex-army chief, who just retired on 15th of this month.

He disclosed that many have come to him for suing Gen Moeen. "I will look after these cases as their lawyer," he said.

To another question, Moudud did not want to elaborate about the charges. "It is not possible for any lawyer to say when the case would be filed---after completing the preparation, the case will be lodged," he said.

Barrister Moudud, however, said he would tell more about the matter later on.

Meanwhile, refuting the Law Minister's statement, Barrister Moudud Ahmed Wednesday said he didn't mention proclamation of the country's independence by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in his book titled 'Bangladesh: Era of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman'.

"I have not mentioned any single word about proclamation of independence in my book 'Era of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman'. The subject of proclamation of independence was not in the book," Moudud said.

He came up with the rebuttal at a press briefing at his Motijheel chamber in response to Law Minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed's statement made Tuesday claiming that Moudud Ahmed in his book mentioned that Bangabandhu proclaimed the independence of Bangladesh.

The ex-Law Minister, Moudud, said that he is certain the incumbent, Barrister Shafique, didn't read his book.

Moudud, however, said it was mentioned in his another book titled 'Bangladesh: Constitutional Quest for Autonomy 1950-1971' that Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman on March 27, 1971 in his own authority proclaimed the independence of Bangladesh and on March 30, 1971, Zia in his second address declared the independence on behalf of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he told the reporters, as the debate is on stream anew following the High Court verdict ruling out Zia as the proclaimer.

Moudud said this book was published in 1976 and so far nobody had opposed his statement as he said the book is information-based.

The BNP standing-committee member said he personally evaluated Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in his book 'Era of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman' which was printed in 1983.

In this book he sometimes mentioned Mujib as Father of the Nation and sometimes as founder of the nation.

In his book Mujib became symbol of Bangali Nationalism, which gave birth to a movement leading to an independent and sovereign identity, Moudud told the journalists.

"In whatever form Bangladesh exists or whatever reversal it takes in its domestic political context or in its foreign relations, Mujib's position as leader of the nationalist movement will not alter," it was written in his book.

The book also mentions: "Mujib is the greatest phenomenon of our history. His death was not his end. He will continue to remain as a legend in the political life of Bangladesh."

Moudud made it clear that none can take the place of Mujib. "But for that reason it cannot be said that Zia had not declared independence," he said.

Referring to invaluable contribution of Sheikh Mujib, he said, "The people had joined movement for independence under the leadership of Bangabandhu."
