A new project was launched in the city Wednesday offering the patients in Bangladesh the opportunity of taking direct medical advice from specialists based in India through video conferencing.

The Telemedicine Project now will help patients seek medical advice directly from specialists in the International Institute of Cardiac Sciences in Kolkata and the Narayana Health City in Bangalore through video conferencing.

National Professor Dr MR Khan inaugurated the project as the chief guest. Dr Jafar Ullah Choudhury, coordinator of Ganashasthya Kendra, presided over the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr MR Khan said, 'This project would enable thousands of underprivileged patients of the country, who are in need of quality healthcare service, to access proper medication.'

Dr Jafarullah in his speech called on the society to ensure peaceful use of science for the cause of humanity.

Borhan Ahmed, editor of The Daily Janakantha, and Nahida Alam, coordinator to Dr Devi Shethy, eminent Bangalore-based heart surgeon who has played a pioneering role in launching the project, also spoke on the occasion.

Later, a formal video conferencing session was arranged with Dr Devi Shethy where he shared his feelings and views with the prominent guests as well as the media people and responded to their queries.

'We have already brought this medical facility to thousands of patients in India and now we are looking forward to expand our service to Bangladesh,' Devi Shethy informed.
