Italy-Bangladesh trade volume doubles in 7 yrs

Italy-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IBCCI) President HM Hakim Ali said the export and import businesses which have more than doubled from 2000 to 2006. Business is now on the rising trend between the two countries.

The IBCCI president said this at a farewell reception accorded to Italian Ambassador in Bangladesh Pietro Ballero at a city hotel recently.

The Italian Embassy in Dhaka provided all kinds of cooperation under the guidance of Ambassador Pietro Ballero, he added.

He further said the IBCCI has become a focal point for the businessmen of Bangladesh and Italy, who have showed their interest to develop business between the two countries.

IFAD Group Deputy Managing Director and IBCCI Director Tanveer Ahmed presented a crest to the Italian envoy.

Ambassador Pietro Ballero, in his farewell speech, appreciated highly the courtesy shown to him by the IBCCI. He lauded the role and performance of the chamber in promoting commerce between Italy and Bangladesh.

He expressed his hope that promotional measures would build a strong base of business sector between the two countries.

He said the IBCCI president and his colleagues are keen to strengthen the business relations between the two countries.

He said he desired to see the IBCCI with more professional programmes emphasising on the business development services (BDS) to be rendered to private sector.

IBCCI First Vice President Muhammad Golam Mustafa said Italy has showed its keen interest to develop excellent working relationship, which would pave the way for smooth and rapid business development.

A large number of IBCCI members, diplomats and senior officials of foreign diplomatic missions, business leaders, government officials and social elites were present on the occasion.
