
"In line with the legal provisions, the by-election to the Bhola-3 constituency will be held in the first week of May, within 90 days of the deadline, as the Election Commission has made a gazette notification in this regard Sunday," Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Sakhawat Hossain told a press briefing at his office Monday.
He said that speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad would now just make a formal announcement declaring the seat vacant.
The High Court (HC) and subsequently the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court earlier declared election of ruling Awami League lawmaker Maj (retd) Jashim Uddin illegal on a writ by his rival BNP candidate Maj (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed.
