Bangladesh and India Monday signed two important deals -- an extradition treaty for exchange of criminals and Revised Travel Arrangement (RTA) for easier visa access, reports UNB.

Indian Home Minister Sushil Kumar Sambhaji Rao Shinde and his Bangladesh counterpart Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir inked the agreements at a city hotel in the afternoon.

The signing of the deals followed a lengthy meeting between Sushil Kumar and MK Alamgir at the same venue.

Rao Shinde led a 15-member Indian delegation while Alamgir a 17-member home side to the meeting.

Earlier in the day, the cabinet approved the proposal of signing the 'extradition treaty' with India to exchange convicted accused of the two countries excluding the exchange of political prisoners while the treaty can be cancelled by any side with a prior notice of six months.

The approval was given at the regular weekly meeting of the cabinet held with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

Only those convicted for criminal offences with one year or more imprisonment would be considered for extradition.

The criminal offences mentioned in the proposed treaty are murder, homicide murder, bodily harm, explosion, use of fire arms, kidnapping, abduction, inciting to murder and property damage.

The Indian cabinet Thursday approved the extradition treaty with Bangladesh.

According to the visa pact, businessmen would be given a five-year multiple entry visa; those who want to travel on medical ground would get two-year multiple entry visa, which is extendable for one more year.

In case of medical purpose entry, as many as three attendants of a patient would also be entitled to visa The new visa pact, named Revised Travel Arrangement, will remove restrictions on visit of each other's business people, students, patients, senior citizens above 65 years and children below 12 years.
