About 200 shanties were gutted by a fire that broke out at a slum in the city's Mohakhali area Monday night, reports UNB.
Fire Service sources said the fire originated at a shanty of the slum behind Metropolitan Hospital at about 8:00 pm and soon engulfed the adjoining ones.
On information, 10 firefighting units from different stations rushed in and doused the blaze at about 9:20 pm.
Though around 200 dwelling houses were gutted by the fire, there was not report of casualty, said Director (Operation) of Fire Service Maj Mahbubur Rahman.
He also said they could not ascertain the reason behind the fire immediately.
