Channel 24 clinched the six-a-side Pepsi Media Cricket title beating Maasranga Television by just one run in an exciting final at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium in the city Saturday, reports UNB.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Faruk Khan, MP witnessed the day's final as chief guest and later he distributed the prizes.
In his speech, the minister thanked the sports journalists for arranging the 24-team meet in the quickest possible time and announced a donation of Tk one lakh for the meet.
Proprietor of Bangladesh Premier League team Dhaka Gladiators Salim Chowdhury was also present as special guest. BSJA president Syed M Mamun, general secretary Saidur Rahman Shamim and Tournament Committee chairman Arifur Rahman Babu were also present.
In the day's final, Channel 24 batted first after winning the toss and scored 69 runs for 2 in quota six overs.
In reply, Maasranga Television scored 68 runs for 4 in six overs to concede defeat.
Sadman Shakib of the champions Channel 24 was adjudged the man of the final and the man of the tournament.
Earlier in the semifinals, Maasranga Television (87/3) eliminated ATN News (86/1) by two wickets while Channel 24 (131/2) beat Channel i (91/2) by 40 runs at the same venue.
A total 24 teams from print and electronic media took part in the meet organized by Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association (BSJA) and sponsored by Transcom Beverages Limited (Pepsi).
