PABNA, Jan 5: A bridge located at Char Ashutoshpur village built at a cost of about Tk 1.5 crore in 2006 during four-party alliance tenure for bringing communication facility to 10 villages under Dowgachhi union in Pabna sadar upazila still remains unused due to the lack of an approach road.
Villagers claimed no step was taken to build the approach road over last 6 years after construction of the bridge.
The then government built the 100-metre long bridge on the branch of Padma (Mora Padma) at Char Ashutoshpur village in 2006. LGED completed the bridge at a cost of Tk 1.5 crore which was inaugurated on October 18 in 2006.
The bridge makes link with Char Ashutoshpur, Radhakantapur, Komorpur, Sadirajpur, Char Sadirajpur, Banglabazar of Dowgachhi union. Recently the union parishad along with the local effort made an earthen road beside the bridge but it is not usable for vehicular communication.
"If we have to go to Pabna town through Char Ashutoshpur and Dipchar area we still have to cross 10 kilometres. But if we could go to town through this bridge it would be no more than 5 to 6 km. Villagers of Radhakantapur, Komorpur, Sadirajpur, char Sadirajpur use to suffer a lot during the rainy season," Mofiz Uddin, a resident of Char Ashutoshpur told The Financial Express.
"Shamsul Islam, chairman of Dowgachhi union Parishad said the union parishad made an earthen road from the union parishad fund along with local efforts but it is not good enough for vehicular communication." We have informed the local lawmaker but no step was taken to build the approach road for using the bridge.
Monwarul Islam, assistant engineer of LGED told The Financial Express that the local lawmaker has already issued a DO letter to built approach road for the bridge. "A project proposal has already submitted for constructing the road. The matter is under consideration of the LGED," he said.
