Ten cos grab 30pc of DSE transactions

Bangladesh Building Systems tops the chart for third day

Top ten traded companies captured on Thursday more than 30 per cent of transactions on the premier bourse with Bangladesh Building Systems (BBS) leading the chart for the third straight session.

The total transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) accounted for Tk 7.82 billion (782 crore) on the day, 10.7 per cent lower than the previous day's value of Tk 8.76 billion.

The most active shares in terms of value on the premier bourse included Bangladesh Building Systems, LankaBangla Finance, BBS Cables, ACI, Prime Bank, Ratanpur Steels, C&A Textiles, DLC Finance, Fortune Shoes and Navana CNG.

Of them, share prices of eight companies rose, the highest by 5.51 per cent, while two faced marginal correction on the day.

According to statistics available with the DSE, about 8.56 million shares of Bangladesh Building Systems were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 466 million. It was 5.95 per cent of the premier bourse's total turnover value.

The company's share price hovered between Tk 53 and Tk 55.70, before closing at Tk 53.50 on the day, losing 2.55 per cent.

LankaBangla followed it, with shares worth Tk 249 million changing hands. It was 4.46 per cent of the total turnover value. The company's share price rose 1.04 per cent to close at Tk 58.10 each.

The newly-listed BBS Cables clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 313 million changing hands. It was 4.0 per cent of the total turnover. The company's share price closed at Tk 134, advancing 1.28 per cent despite the regulator forming a probe body to investigate its unusual price hike.

ACI Limited featured a turnover of Tk 276 million, which was 3.53 per cent of the day's total. The company's share price closed at Tk 553, advancing 3.48 per cent.

Prime Bank emerged fifth with shares worth Tk 185 million changing hands, grabbing 2.36 per cent of the day's total turnover. The bank's share price closed at Tk 25.90 each, rising 4.02 per cent over the previous day.

The turnover of Ratanpur Steels was Tk 173 million. It captured 2.21 per cent of the day's total transactions. The company's share price rose 1.45 per cent to close at Tk 84.10 each.

C&A Textiles featured a turnover of Tk 170 million, which was 2.17 per cent of the day's total. The company's share price closed at Tk 13.40, up by 5.51 per cent.
