Malady of Sunmagonj haor project

SAVING the lives of people in the country irrespective of their economic status is supposed to be a priority for all concerned. The same applies to people who are living in Sylhet. What was supposed to be finished in four years has not been accomplished in six years due to the negligence of the authorities concerned. Floods have also engulfed the northern part of our country.

The timid work speed can easily be understood from the way work has been done in Sylhet region. The Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) took measures to carry out this important work to reduce the sufferings of people of this region. All efforts by the BWDB seem to have ended in agony as only half of the drainage regulators were constructed in course of six years. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested some contractors in this connection, but something is yet to be done about the 11 project directors. However, we would like to see the project work progressing fast and is finished soon.
