Stocks witness positive trend at early trading

The prices of most of the shares witnessed upward trend in early hour of trading on Wednesday as investors continued to take position on sector-wise large-cap issues.

Following the previous two days’ moderate gain, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened positive trend amid increasing participation of investors.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced more than 12 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse rose 13 points at 10:15am.

After first 30 minutes of trading, DSEX rose nearly 9.0 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse advanced 11 points at 11:00am when the report was filed.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 8.90 points or 0.15 per cent to reach at 5,871 points at 11:00am.

Two other indices saw positive trend till then. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 3.95 points or 0.18 per cent to 2,107 points. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) rose 0.98 points or 0.07 to stand at 1,308 points.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 1.48 billion when the report was filed at 11:00am.

Bangladesh Building Systems emerged as turnover leader with shares worth Tk 368 million changing hands, closely followed by BBS Cables Tk 188 million, Fortune Shoes Tk 70 million, United Finance Tk 58 million and Golden Harvest Agro Industries Tk 56 million.

Of the issues traded till then, 133 advanced, 70 declined and 45 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also saw positive till then trend with its Selective Category Index – CSCX advancing 11 points to stand at 11,018 points, also at 11:00am.

Of the issues traded till then, 51 gained, 28 declined and 14 issues remained unchanged with Tk 60 million in turnover.
