Magura cattle fatteners expect Tk 480m profit during Eid

MAGURA, Aug 21: Magura cattle fatteners are expecting Tk 480 million during this Eid market.

Magura fatteners sources informed they are now busy with fattening cattle. They are now passing sleepless night in fear of cattle thieves. On the other hand as Magura cattle fattening process has already been declared as steroid free by district livestock department.  Cattle of the area are in high demand to the traders of Dhaka and Chittagang. Moreover, as Indian cattle are yet to reach the local market Magura fatteners are expecting a good profit.

Magura district livestock department sources informed a total of 11,263 cattle are being fattened in the district while the demand is 7,660 in the district.

Jarina Khatun of village Nanduali under Magura sadar upazilla told, "I bought 3 cattle from local market at Tk 55,000 around eight months ago. I have spent Tk 20,000 for my cattle. Traders have offered my 3 cattle Tk 90 thousand. But I have disagreed as I am expecting Tk 0.1 million."

Another farmer Jamil Shekh of village Jagla under Magura sadar upazila told, "I bought five cattle nine months ago at Tk 0.13 million. I have spent 40,000 for those. Now I am expecting Tk 0.25 million profit." He added Magura cattle fattening has been declared as steroid free.

Atiar Rahman, a college teacher of Magura said, "This year traders from outside of the district are dominating cattle market. Consequently fatteners are demanding high price. He added as Indian cattle are yet to be seen in the district local cattle are in high demand. Fatteners are selling their cattle from their shed in stead of going to the hut.

Mujibur Rahman a cattle trader who came from Dhaka to Magura told, "I thought as Magura is adjacent to bordering district Jessore.  I shall be able to buy   Indian cattle from this district at a cheap rate. But the situation is reverse. I am yet to see any Indian cattle in the local market. Locals fattenres are dominating the market demanding high price of cattle.

District livestock officer Kanai Lal Sharnaker informed, "We have declared Magura cattle fattening process steroid free .We have formed district committee and upazila committee to monitor the process. At the same time we have kept veterinary drug shops under close observation. Morevoer our team will work in cattle hut from tomorrow (Monday) to check use of steroid. We are optimistic Magura fattners will make a good profit this year."
