NBR plans to bring 5.0m people under tax net by 2021

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has chalked out plans to bring 5.0 million people under the tax net by the year 2021, reports BSS.

"We want to bring 5.0 million people under tax net before the golden jubilee celebration of country's independence," NBR Member Abdur Razzaque told the news agency.

To this end, he said, NBR is working to add 7,000-8,000 people to tax net annually.

The country has now 3.0 million e-TIN holders and as per the plan, NBR has to net another 2.0 million people within this stipulated time.

Terming the country's tax-GDP ratio frustrating, the senior NBR official said, "Changing the scenario is a must for the sake of the country's development and that is why, tax administrative system is being reshuffled alongside modernisation of tax law."

NBR is expanding activities to Upazila level and increasing tax survey.

It has also directed its field-level officials to find out the people who are able to submit minimum tax as many people still remain out of the tax net.
