Govt conducts massive relief activities in flood-hit northern districts
The government is conducting all-time record relief activities to assist flood-hit people and lessen their sufferings amid improving flood situation in ten northern districts on the Brahmaputra basin, reports BSS.

Officials from district administrations said 7,333 tonnes of rice, Taka 16 million in cash and more than 35,000 packets of dry foods were allocated for flood affected people in ten northern districts where flood situation is continuously improving for the third consecutive day today. 

A total of 7,95,000 families have been affected by flood in Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Rangpur, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Bogra and Sirajganj districts. 

"We have already allocated 6,062 tonnes of rice and Taka 14.6 million and distribution is nearing completion in eight flood-hit districts under Rangpur division," Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed told BSS today. 

"Distribution of dry foods and providing health services to flood-affected people are also continuing in the division where 6,66,000 families have been affected by flood," Ahmed added. 

Besides, distribution of 1,271 tonnes of rice, Taka 1.47 million and dry foods were continuing among flood-hit people of Bogra and Sirajganj districts, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officers (DRRO) concerned said. 

Officials at Bangladesh Water Development Board (WDB) said water levels of the rivers marked further falls at all points, except at Kanthakhali, further improving flood situation at most areas on the river basin during past 24 hours ending at 9am today. 

The major rivers and tributaries were flowing below danger mark (DM) at 11 points and above DM at nine points in the region at 9am today.
