Six die as truck overturns in Naogaon

At least six people died and another three were injured after a freight truck overturned into a ditch, police say.

The accident occurred on the Naogaon-Rajshahi Highway in Manda Upazila around 9am on Saturday, said local police station chief Anisur Rahman.

Five of the dead have been identified as Shaheb Ali, Ashraf Uddin, Abdul Mannan, Jiten Chandra and Delwar Hossain. The victims are aged between 35 and 45, police said, reports bdnews24.com.

The truck was carrying bamboo and 12-13 passengers from Rajshahi to Naogaon when it veered out of control and overturned, OC Rahman said. A police team was dispatched to the scene after the accident was reported.

“We have recovered six bodies and three injured people from the scene. We are not sure if there are more people beneath the truck or whether any left the scene before police arrived,” Rahman said.

Police and fire service personnel led rescue efforts with the help of locals. The injured have been taken to the Manda Upazila Medical Complex for treatment.
