DSE,CSE up at opening

The prices of most of the shares witnessed upward trend in early hour of trading on Wednesday as investors are showing their buying appetite on sector-wise stocks, especially banks. The trading on the bourses resumed on the day after a two-day gap due to public holidays on account of Janmastami and National Mourning Day on Monday and Tuesday respectively.

Following the previous two sessions’ gain, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) saw positive trend at opening amid low participation of investors.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced more than 22 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse rose 43 points at 10:15am.

After first 30 minutes of trading, it slowed down somewhat and the DSEX rose 10 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse advanced 39 points at 11:00am when the report was filed.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 10 points or 0.17 per cent to reach at 5,932 points at 11:00am.

However, two other indices saw negative trend till then. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 1.17 points or 0.05 per cent to 2,125 points. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 0.19 points or 0.01 to stand at 1,311 points.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 1.46 billion when the report was filed at 11:00am, riding on banks. Four banks were among the top 10 turnover leaders till 11:00am.

Uttara Bank emerged as turnover leader with shares worth Tk 190 million changing hands till then, followed by BBS Cables Tk 117 million, Pubali Bank Tk 105 million, IFIC Bank Tk 98 million and Fu-Wang Food Tk 69 million.

Of the issues traded till then, 108 advanced, 96 declined and 45 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also saw upward till then trend with its Selective Category Index – CSCX advancing 39 points to stand at 11,150 points, also at 11:00am.

Of the issues traded till then, 46 gained, 33 declined and 16 issues remained unchanged with Tk 44 million in turnover.
